Be sure you get a good cannoneer! If your crew is few it will take longer time to re-load.Also be sure that you have plenty of gun powdeer. There's nothing worse than being in atarget rich enviornment without powder. Another thing is to make sure you're in gun range,guns won't fire if you're out of range or at the wrong angles. Lastly be sure to rake fastships with double shot to slow them down then with a good peppering of grape shot to killoff most of the enemy crew and pirates rarely surrender! You're not likely to be able totake many enemy as slaves and you' ll take much fewer losses when you wish to grapple.
